How Many Feet Do You Have?
by salome sides - Tuesday, 27 May 2008, 08:44 PM
Anyone in the world

By Carmel Baird How many feet do you have? Or I should say, how many feet does your sewing machine have? Once upon a time there was a sewing machine with one foot, one foot for sewing a straight stitch. Now there are sewing machines with many feet and they all do a different job for you. They certainly make life at the sewing machine more enjoyable and easier. Some of these feet come with your machine and your manual will have the information for you on what application they are used for. By taking the time to try these attachments for your sewing machine, you will find a whole new creative side to yourself, and you thought your machine was for sewing. I'd like to take you through some of these sewing feet and what they can do. Your machine comes with the straight stitch foot and a zig-zag foot, these tow are normally standard. Some machines come with other feet as standard to that make or model and then there are the extra feet you can purchase to do those wonderful sewing jobs for you. I'd like to take you through these feet. These are the names as I know them, some of these may have different names with different manufacturers but the stitches they will be the same. Braid Foot The narrow and wide braid feet both have a hook on the front of the foot slip and a narrow tunneled groove underneath. It is used when you want to add cording or braid. The cord is laced through the hook and under the foot slip into the tunneled groove. There is a braid-guide attachment you can attach near the presser foot shank to keep the braid or cord taut while stitching, no tangles. Buttonhole Foot The buttonhole foot can be recognized by it's rectangle shaped foot with thin extensions at either end, a raised square on top of the foot and small grooves on the bottom of the foot. It is similar to some embroidery feet. It makes sewing buttonholes very easy. Eyelet Foot I don't know how many of you would want to be sewing eyelets but if that is what you want to do then this is the foot for you. It is a very specialized foot. It is a H-shaped flat foot, has a small cylinder shape attachment to the top surface. Gathering Foot This one is very handy. It is a small L-shaped foot with a slot on the bottom side. The bottom of the foot is higher at the front than the back. This causes the foot to rock when attached to the machine. This rocking creates the gathers. You set the stitch length at a higher setting to get more gathers and a normal setting to get less gathers. If you are gathering a single piece of fabric, feed the fabric under the foot or use the side slot to stitch one piece of fabric to another. Narrow Bias Binder Foot This foot has a coned shaped, slotted cylinder on the topside of the foot. It folds and applies the bias binding in one step. Open-Toe Embroidery Foot This foot will give you a view of your work so you can see the satin or decorative stitches between the widely spaced toes. There are grooves underneath to allow room for the stitches. Pintuck Foot This is a flat foot with grooves cut in underneath. This foot, used with a double needle will pinch and stitch lines of straight stitching in narrow raised patterns. The number of grooves will determine the spacing between the lines and the number of pattern lines. The three groove pintuck foot is used on heavier fabric or for wider designs and the for and five groove pintuck foot will be better on lightweight fabric or for narrower patterns. Rolled Hemming Foot If you want small double folded hems then this is the foot for you. Use it for medium to lightweight fabric. The groove on the bottom of the foot is the width of the finished hem. You will be able to sew hems with a straight stitch, zig-zag or decorative stitch. This has so many uses, think of lingerie, ruffles, curtains, scarves, table linen, wonderful. Roller Foot This is a very handy foot, the metal roller feeds the fabric and keeps it from stretching and bunching, great for thick, heavier fabric and fabric with a nap. Often called an even feed foot. Ruffler Foot This is a large foot with many components and you use it to evenly space ruffles and pleats. If you want to ruffle bigger jobs like curtains, skirts, home decor items then this foot will help enormously. Teflon Foot This foot is coated in teflon and we all know teflon is non-stick so this foot will stop those difficult fabrics like leather, suede or textured fabric. It allows the fabric to glide under rather than being fed. You can get it as a zig-zg or a straight stitch foot. Walking Foot This foot has teeth rather than a roller to feed the fabric evenly. Welding Foot This has two narrow claw like prongs instead of a small hole in the middle and is used for straight stitching close to the edge of a hem or seam Zipper Foot This is one of the best feet ever made for sewing machines, it looks like a straight stitch foot cut in half and then the outside edges joined in the center. well, that is the more common types of the sewing machine feet available. Most of these would be available for most machines on the market today. If you intend to do special sewing jobs then investing in the foot for that particular job could save you so much time. Birth Account in Matthew and Luke
by salome sides - Tuesday, 27 May 2008, 08:00 PM
Anyone in the world

By Gabriel Rise The book of Matthew begins with Jesus lineage. Maybe it was unnecessary, but I compared Jesus lineage in Matthew with chronicles in the Old Testament (1Chronicles 1-3). I just wanted to ensure the reliability of Matthew. I must admit that the family tree is from Abraham till Joseph, Jesus father. So, the first difference in Matthew 1:8, it is told Jehoram the father of Uzziah and in 1Chronicles 3:11 Jehoram had a son, Ahaziah. Than in Matthew 1:9 Uzziah had a son Jotham and in Old Testament (1Chr3:11,12) Ahaziah-Joash- Amaziah- Azariah- Jotham. We can see that three generations are lost. Look further - Josiah the father of Jeconiah (Mt1:11) and Josiah Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin (a variant of Jeconiah) his son (1Chr 3:15,16). Also in 2Kings24:6 we have the confirmation, that Jeconiah was Jehoiakims son, not Josiahs one. And in Matthew1:12 its told that Shealtiel was Zerubbabels father but in 1Chronicles3:17-19 its told that Shealtiel had a brother, Pedaiah and Pedaiah had a son, Zerubbabel. And here we have an interesting thing in xEzra5:2 we read that Zerubbabel was Shealtiels son (the Matthew version). But further Im lost, because there are no names named in Matthew in the Old Testament. So that is what we have with lineage in Matthew. Lets see the story of birth of Christ in Matthew. From Matthew we know that Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea (Mt2:1) during the time of King Herod. Herod wanted to kill king of Jews and ordered to kill boys in Bethlehem who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. So Joseph went with his family to Egypt and stayed there until the die of Herod; when King had died Joseph came back, but being frightened he went to Nazareth in Galilee (Mt2: 14,15,22,23). Here we have such story. Do you know what I noticed reading Matthew? I noticed that Matthew often recollects words of prophets (Micah5:2, Hosea11:1, Jeremiah31:15, Isiah11:1,10) and uses numbers (Mt1:17) as evidence. Do you know why? Because Matthew wrote for Jewish people and his mission was to convince them that Jesus was the Promised Messiah, king of the Jews, the descendant of David. And I repeat that maybe it was unnecessary to analyze the lineage of Jesus, but it was interesting for me, how Matthew consulted with task of showing Jews that Jesus was really the descendant of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David. And the mistakes, which I listed above, show that Matthew has not ideally coped with the problem. When I read The New Testament I turn a deaf ear the lineage because of two reasons. Firstly Im not a Jew, so the history of someones antecedents is not interesting for me, but is very important to Jews. And secondly, for me, the person of the twenty first century, this lineage does not have any sense - Matthew conducts a chronological tree up to Joseph, but I know that Joseph was not Jesus blood father. And as Jews knew the prophets promises (Ps131:11, Isaih11:1,10), it is another proof that Matthew wrote to make Jews believe him. Let us consider Jesus lineage in Luke (3:23:38). The chronicles begins from God and goes to Joseph. I compared the lineage in Luke with the chronicles in the Old Testament as I did with the lineage of Matthew. The mistake (I considered the story of Luke from the end) is in Luke3:36 Arphaxad was Shelahs son, not Cainans (Gen11:12; 1Chr1:18). And I stopped on David, because he did have son Nathan (Luke3:31, 1Chr3:5) but there were no the chronicles about offspring of Nathan. So here I stopped. Now about Jesus birth in Luke. In those days Caesar Augustus ordered to make population census (Luke2:1). As Joseph was the descendant of David he took Maria and went to the town of David, Bethlehem (Luke2:4,5). And in Bethlehem Jesus was born (Luke2:7). Mary and Joseph went to Jerusalem to present Jesus to God (Luke2:22) and than, after doing everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned home, to Nazareth. The only question I have is why Luke wrote the lineage of Christ. And now Ill observe Matthew and Luke together. I dont consider the lineages in details, because from Solomon in Matthew and Nathan in Luke there were totally different names. Ill consider the birth stories. In Matthew the action occurs in Bethlehem while in Luke Joseph and Maria go from Nazareth to Bethlehem. After the birth of Christ in Matthew the family goes to Egypt and in Luke some days they go to Jerusalem. And here Ill try to mix these stories. I can easily add the fact about census into the version in Matthew, but how can I mix Jerusalem travel and travel to Egypt. If Joseph and his family was both in Jerusalem and Egypt, than first they were in Jerusalem (if on the contrary, Jesus would be some years old when he got to Jerusalem and thats cannot be). So the version Bethlehem-Egypt-Jerusalem I reject and consider the version Bethlehem -Jerusalem-Egypt. This version could be truthful for me if not Matthew2:13 and Luke2:39. In Matthew its notified that in Bethlehem Gods angel told Joseph to go to Egypt and nothing about Jerusalem. Well, maybe Matthew has overlooked this fact, but in Luke its told that after doing everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. Joseph and his family were in Jerusalem to complete everything according to the Law (to present Jesus to God and to offer a sacrifice). It is not told that they have come back home only when have executed orders of the God. Of course, we could mix the story of Matthew and story of Luke but there would not be the guarantee that our story is truthful. No the last thought I have about this theme but the last thought in this thought paper is my view of inspiration. I did not even think that that the Bible contains mistakes, because the writers were inspirited by the Holy Spirit. My view of inspiration was wrong: I thought that those writers of the Bible just wrote word in word everything the Holy Spirit inspired them. But now I understand (maybe this point of view is mistaken too) that the writers (by the way alive people who can be mistaken) got the picture of event and changed it according to their mission. Matthew proved that Jesus was the Messiah, Mark showed wondrous nature of Jesus, Luke stressed Jesus acceptance of gentiles, John described inner meaning of Jesus teaching. In any way I want to comprehend the Bible and I want comprehend it without bias, objectively. What is Your Definition of Marketing?
by salome sides - Saturday, 24 May 2008, 01:42 AM
Anyone in the world

By Beth Woodward What I have discovered through my experience of marketing is, its all in how we define it. We can think of marketing the way most of us do which puts us in the box of making cold calls, knocking on doors, going to numerous networking groups, sending out mail, speaking, the list goes on and on of what we have known. The simple definition of marketing is: letting your audience know what you do. From this simple idea, its up to you how you want to market. You have complete freedom in how. Heres the bottom line! No Marketing = No Clients = No Money = No Business! HOWEVER You do get to Market YOUR WAY! You get to have FUN! and be extremely creative. In fact, give yourself permission to market YOUR WAY and change the formula above to: Market YOUR Way = More Confidence = Attract more clients = A THRIVING BUSINESS! Now, lets change your definition and Guess Whatyour definition will be different from each businessperson you meet. We are all unique. We choose different business paths; wear different clothes; drive different cars; have different viewpointsour marketing approach should be just as unique? Here are 3 examples of marketing provided from entrepreneurs. 1. I didnt like networking groups but thought I would try some out. My definition of a networking group is this: It had to fit with my values, it had to be fun, and the group had to come from a unique perspective. Most of them were about collecting as many cards as you can. I tried 4 groups and one fit perfectly. EwomenNetwork comes from giving first and they have a wonderful format that gave me permission to ask for what I wanted. It was very safe, very professional and very genuine. Ive been a member for 3 years its the only one I attend consistently. 2. I have a Web Design company and one of my passions is voyager canoeing. I began to utilize outdoor-related themes in our marketing messages and promotions. Most important, I decided that canoeing was also a great way to network. As a professional woman business owner and an experienced canoe guide, I developed a Ladies Voyageur Day. I hosted a group of entrepreneurial women on a guided canoe trip. The event was so successful it has become an annual sponsored event. 3. I had always found marketing to be a distasteful chore. I was diligent and had managed to stay busy as a consultant by networking and following up on leads, but it was an unpleasant duty, and I avoided it whenever possible. I think one of the best-kept secrets to becoming successful at marketing is first choosing to be of service to a group of people you truly care about. With my new mission in mind, all of a sudden, marketing became effortless. The clients I wanted to serve were people I really cared about, I wanted to spend time with them. Instead of dreading networking events. I began looking forward to them as a place to meet new people I could help. Before, I had avoided business lunches finding them boring and awkward, but now I enjoy listening about new opportunities to be of service. To summarize our 3 marketing definitions: - Giving first, asking, How can I help you forward your business, rather than saying, What do you do. - Creating a marketing approach that doesnt feel like marketing because Im doing what I loveVoyager Canoeing - Being a service to a group of people OK, do you have a new perspective on the definition of marketing? What are your thoughts with the questions below? 1. What was your original definition of marketing and is it different now? 2. Did you give yourself permission before this class to think of marketing ideas outside of the box? If not, what permission will you give yourself now? There is a marketer inside of all of us its just a matter of identifying the true, authentic marketing person inside of YOU. The Perfect Pot of Tea
by salome sides - Wednesday, 21 May 2008, 03:02 AM
Anyone in the world

By Dawnya Sasse The perfect pot of tea is far more than just pouring boiling water over some leaves. There is, in fact, an art form and a science to bringing the brew to perfection. The first step is to fill your tea kettle with cold water. Always use fresh water, and dont rely on old water that has stayed in the kettle from the last time. Turn the kettle on to boil. Make sure your kettle is a stainless steel, non-reactive vessel. While the kettle is heating, fill your clean teapot with hot water. (Since the polyphenols in tea can go rancid if they are left in the pot, making your tea taste bitter, its important to wash your teapot thoroughly after each use.unless, of course, youre using a Yixing teapot!) Essentially, you are pre-heating the teapot, a process which helps keep the tea warm and allows the leaves to open fully. Dry the teapot out after it has been warmed with the hot water. Pick your pleasure and select the tea leaves you are going to use. In general, use 1 teaspoon of loose tea for each cup, placing the leaves into your infuser. If youre making tea for more than six people, add one extra teaspoon of leaves for the pot. Bring the teapot to the kettle so that heat is not lost, and then pour the boiling water over the tea leaves in the pot. Use the teapots lid to hold in the steam and properly steep the tea. For black teas, the proper steeping is three to five minutes. Allowing the tea leaves to steep for more than five minutes, or pressing or squeezing the wet tea leaves can result in a bitter taste because too many of the polyphenols are released. Stick to the time-honored formula of a teaspoon per cup. You cant make a perfect pot of tea by using poor quality leaves and increasing the amount of time it steeps, or by using more tea and steeping it less time. Herbal tisanes and green teas require five to ten minutes of steeping. In England, and for many tea lovers, making tea by the cup instead of in the pot is improper and taboo. While you may never earn a perfect 10.0 at the Olympics, or find the absolute perfect match-made-in-heaven, its easy to make the perfect pot of tea. E-Letters Should be Part of Your Marketing Plan
by salome sides - Sunday, 18 May 2008, 09:32 PM
Anyone in the world

By Claudia Trusty Absolutely. E-letters should be an integral part of nearly every companys marketing plan. They are both time and cost effective, reaching all of your clients and as many potential clients as you have permission to solicit via email. I am a huge advocate of e-letters; our company sends one out every month and we receive additional work because of contacts made through our e-letters. Developing e-letters is part of our client services. So why have I recently talked clients out of using e-letters for their businesses? Because e-letters are not a quick fix solution. They should be one tactic in an established marketing strategy. Have a marketing plan
If you dont know where youre going and what youll say when you get there, dont bother communicating. You need to have your companys branding messages developed.

Mission The basis for your brand is what your company provides to customers and why should they care.
Visual elements Logo, identity, tagline, colors. All the graphic elements that stimulate customer recognition and support your Mission.
Message planning The marketing messages you want to focus on for the next 12 24 months.
Tactics The specific action points that will communicate your brand and message. Getting your brand in the door
One of the big reasons I believe in email as a marketing or branding tactic is because it supports visual recognition. Certainly content is important, but recognition allows the receiver to acknowledge the brand and let the message in. Lets give it a quick test right now. Think about Coca Cola. Unless you have never seen their logo, chances are that right now you are visualizing the white script on red background. You let the brand in immediately and now youre ready for the message. Well-executed e-letters work the same way. Your letters identity is the first image your readers will see and a positive reaction gets you in the door to tell your story. Maximize that opportunity:
Consistently use a masthead, including e-letter name that immediately connects clients to your company identity.
Use photography and other graphic elements to create excitement. A picture is still worth a thousand words!
Design a layout that is appealing and a format for articles thats easy on the eyes. Font type and size as well as colors used are a major issue in viewing any written Internet communication. Take various systems into account and test on as many as you can until you are sure your e-letter will display equally well on most servers.
Follow all the rules. Read the Can-Spam Act and use only your own permission based mail list. Your in, now make it worth their while
Once your e-letter achieves entry, give the reader something of value. Do not use an e-letter for blatant advertising or you risk losing subscribers. Support your brand with information related to your companys industry, articles that can inform and educate, even entertain, without a hard sell. For instance, if you are in the automotive business offer topics like Fill Your Tank Less Often or Lease or Buy, Which is Best for You? rather than directly selling cars. If no one on your staff has the ability to craft well written articles, hire a professional or use a publishing service that allows reprints of articles at no cost, like ezinearticles.com
Keep articles to 250 300 words. If an article must be longer, show the opening paragraphs on your e-letter and link to the full story.
Add humor, points of interest that are relevant to your industry and link articles and photos to appropriate web sites that might be useful to your readers. Our own web site receives the most click thrus from our e-letter; second place goes to Cool Site, a feature about other sites that we like and find very entertaining. Decide what success looks like
Reports are available from all e-letter service companies and you should regularly review them to measure the effectiveness of this marketing tactic. We looked at click thrus to develop future content and bounces to correct addresses. Even more importantly, we listen to the feedback we receive and react to it. Our readers know what they like and we think servicing this customer is part of our overall client service objective. Consistency counts
Dont embark on an e-letter campaign unless you are able to maintain it. We have clients that distribute monthly, bi-monthly and even quarterly. How often is not as important as consistency. Your readers should know what to expect and when to expect it. And this is where we beganwhy I have talked clients out of developing e-letters. If you dont have a brand identity or marketing plan, if you dont have the ability to develop content, if you dont have a permission based mail list, dont start an e-letter campaign. You will be very disappointed with the results and abandon the effort after one or two issues. With well thought out planning and focused execution, your e-letter campaign will support your brand and might just be the most cost effective way to communicate with your audience. It will definitely be worth the effort. Claudia Trusty develops strong marketing and branding messages that drive results for small and mid-size companies. By Sumit Bhatnagar Fishing is a sport full of recreation. Fishing means catching the fish by trapping animals that live in water. Fishing now has turned a professional sport. The conventional way to catch the fish is using a net to trap the fish from sea or rivers.

There are several others methods in practice used for catching the fish. In fishing so many tools are used. A tackle, hook, lead system and fishing line.
The name given to the activity of catching fish is called angling. When people catch fish more than just recreation , that is for their lunch , dinner or for commercial purpose it becomes a recreational or professional angling but there are lots of people around the world who believe in catch and release angling. This type of angling consist an ethical consideration for fishing. There are several rules to follow for catch and release angling.
Use a strong tackle so that you can quickly catch a fish and release it with the same speed without hurting it. We should use barb less hooks to avoid any physical damage to fish.
Quick lead system like 'Korda' can be a great help for you. Always keep one thing in mind that you are trying to be sporty with someones life so you have to be perfect while being sporty. Do it but do it right and you will feel ethically

by salome sides - Thursday, 15 May 2008, 12:52 AM
Anyone in the world

By Connie Scholl First let's define exactly what a "C.O.I." is... A Center of Influence is a person you know of who interacts with a large number of people on a regular basis and is always willing to connect people they meet with others in their networks. (They're often dubbed "Social Butterflies!") Building a relationship with a C.O.I. will often lead to many new referrals without great effort or expense on your part. So, now that we've agreed that C.O.I. are a good thing, let's talk about how to initiate solid business relationships with these folks (so that you can then spend less time marketing and more time doing the work you enjoy)! 1. Who Would be a Good C.O.I. for Your Business? In other words, who already has contacts with your target market--Financial Professionals, Mortgage Brokers, Insurance Representatives, Real Estate
Agents? Think this through and create a list of those people that could help you grow your business. 2. What's In It For Them? Keeping in mind that this is a two-way street, think about what resources, information, skills, clients or contacts you might have to offer. Come to the table armed with ideas and effectively communicate what you'd like them to do for you, as well as what you're offering in return. 3. Where Can You Rub Elbows With a C.O.I.? First, do a bit of research and find out what type of groups they belong to--then regularly attend these functions yourself! 4. Who Already Knows the Person You Want to Meet? Six-Degrees of separation anyone? It really IS a small world. Your connection to just about anyone in the world is closer than you think. Think family, friends, networking contacts and existing clients here! 5. Always Have Something to Invite People To C.O.I. love to network and would be delighted if you were able to introduce THEM to new contacts, as well. 6. Communicate With Your C.O.I. Often Remember, the goal here is long-term relationship, not a one-night stand. You want to maintain a healthy business relationship to ensure leads and referrals continue to flow in on a consistent basis. For this to happen, you need to stay in touch with phone calls, meetings, notes, etc. 7. Don't Forget to say "Thank You" Don't take your referrals for granted. Take the time to acknowledge that lead or new client with an appropriate thank you gesture. Everyone LOVES to
be appreciated and thanked! Low Fat Fallacy
by salome sides - Wednesday, 14 May 2008, 10:34 PM
Anyone in the world

By Jim Foster I guess we all know that obesity is at epidemic levels. It's drummed into us from all angles. Isn't it strange that we have the biggest range of low-fat foods available but we keep getting fatter? Isn't somebody going to stand up and say "It hasn't worked"? In the 70's and 80's we were told that fat was the enemy, and carbohydrates were good. The USDA Healthy Food Pyramid had carbs as the base (6-11 servings per day). There was however, little mention of the quality of these carbohydrates. Manufacturers were quick to respond, and began bringing out "Low Fat", "Fat-Free", and "Lite" versions of various food products. These are generally the biggest selling items, and have resulted in lot's of clever marketing tactics - in fact anything to make the consumer feel guilty, and look for the "Fat-Free" option. Milk - Is Whole Milk Really That Bad? Most of our modern milk undergoes the process of homogenisation. This process forces the fat globules into an atomiser (i.e. tiny holes) that will form tiny particles. These particles are then evenly dispersed throughout the milk, giving the milk a uniform appearance. Most of our low fat, trim, super-trim milks are created using this process. However, recent research has shown that structural changes do occur in the homogenisation process. In unhomogenised milk, an enzyme called xanthine oxidase would pass throught the digestive system, and be secreted harmlessly through the bowel. The homogenisation process allows this enzyme to enter the bloodstream. Some researchers are saying the enzyme attacks the issues of our heart and arteries, encouranging an increase in cholesterol levels! Low Fat Hasn't Worked The evidence of the last twenty years, is showing us that just choosing a low-fat version of a food is not helping us lose weight. In fact, we need to question, the processes that go on to make certain foods "low fat". Many blame a high amount of refined carbohydrates (white flours, sugars) as having an impact on our weight problem. Why Are We So Fat? More and more evidence is showing that we eat too much, and exercise too little. Our lifestyles are very sedentary, and portion size has increased. The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has concluded that "we eat a lot a whole lot more than we used to, and most of the increase comes from refined carbohydrates (sugar)." In the 1970's the average person ate 136 pounds of flour and cereal products per year and now it's up to 200 pounds. The increase is almost all from processed, white flour, high sugar foods. In addition, everything has been super-sized. Example: 1955 McDonald's French fries 2.4 ounces, 210 calories. 2004 Super size Fries 7 ounces, 610 calories. What's The Answer? Don't get too hung up complex nutrient ratios told to you by the latest diet book. You need to find what works for you and your body. It's a process of trial and error. Start with a diet, then keep working at it until you find what is best for you and your health. Try to eat whole unprocessed food where possible, and eat little and often to regulate your energy levels. Go easy on all the refined foods - it's hard - because everywhere you go - most of the food is made from cheap refined flours and base products. Also try to get out and stretch your legs more often. www.freedieting.com is a resource for everything concerning losing weight.
