Anyone in the world By Paula Rothstein It is understandable that a medicinal drug having undergone double blind studies, several years of research, and millions of dollars spent on that research, should have a place of credibility. But what if the entire system was flawed to begin with, money and time wasted on treating a symptom rather than working to find a cure or better yet, prevention of the disease? Or what if the system was more than flawed but in many cases left the person in a less healthy state after having completed treatment using a pharmaceutical drug? With all of our knowledge about how the human body works, knowing its intolerance of unnatural elements, why are we, as medical patients, so accepting of the idea that we should be treating ourselves with synthetic drugs that are virtually poison to our body? To relieve one symptom we acquire two or three new symptoms, a new chronic condition we need to deal with and, of course, another prescription medication to fill each month. Of course, those involved in the area of holistic medicine can never claim to prevent, cure, or treat a disease, even if that is the intended outcome and regardless of the numerous individuals finding themselves to be in a state of improved health. Only drug companies can make such claims. In fact, they own those words. Whether or not that right is deserved is irrelevant. It is worth noting that most natural supplements have endured centuries of product testing. Because of my interest in finding a holistic approach to addressing cancer, I recently came to distribute a product called Natural Cellular Defense which is a patented liquid detoxification product made from zeolite technology, marketed by the company of Waiora. Initially it was being researched as a cancer drug, however, because it is all natural, it was instead introduced to the market as a supplement. Studies show Natural Cellular Defense has the ability to remove heavy metals and harmful toxins in a safe and effective manner as well as activate the p21 tumor suppressor gene in cancerous cells. It also happens to be 100% non-toxic and is completely safe for all ages. This natural health product alone could conceivably help alleviate the toxins and waste accumulating in the average person, responsible for many chronic diseases. But no matter how many people are helped by taking this natural supplement, we make no claims. It is not a drug. For years I have been frustrated by the radical and harmful techniques employed when treating tumors in cancer patients and would like to see non-toxic methods given greater attention and legitimacy. There is also far too much time and effort placed on detection rather than prevention of the disease. Prevention is the key, not detection. Detection means the disease has had a chance to manifest itself and take hold. At the very least we should not be poisoning a body with toxic drugs once a diagnosis has been made. Here is the list of potential side effects of chemotherapy and you be the judge as to whether this sounds like a viable treatment option: Low hemoglobin, low white blood cells, low platelets, infection, need for blood transfusion, need for platelet transfusion, pain, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, skin injury, heart damage, lung damage, liver damage, kidney damage, loss of hearing, small stature, hormonal problems such as low growth hormone or low thyroid hormone, infertility, second cancer, intellectual decline, worsening of neurological symptoms, ineffectiveness, and death. To understand better the hypocrisy of cancer treatment, consider the following: One of the largest and most prestigious cancer treatment centers in the world, The McGill Cancer Center in Canada, did a study of oncologists to determine how they would respond to a diagnosis of cancer. On the confidential questionnaire, 58 out of 64 doctors said that all chemotherapy programs were unacceptable to them and their family members. The overwhelming reason for this decision was that they believe the drugs are ineffective and have an unacceptable degree of toxicity. Do you imagine these same doctors are recommending chemotherapy treatment to shrink their patients tumors? Yes, indeed they are, as they must if they wish to follow standard protocol. There are alternative, non-toxic treatments available to cancer patients, but you must work to find these natural treatments on your own. Of course, you may find a natural treatment you would like to pursue only to discover the medical profession standing in the way of implementing your treatment plan. A few years ago, I came across a story which is truly heart breaking. It involves a two year old boy named Alexander who was diagnosed with the most common pediatric brain tumor, medulloblastoma. After substantial consideration and thoughtful research by the parents following Alexanders two brain surgeries, the parents chose for their son a non-toxic therapy, proven to be highly effective in treatment of brain cancer. However, the FDA denied the parents access to this treatment and the parents were informed by their oncologists that without their state of the art chemotherapy, the cancer would soon return. Alexander completed his third month of chemotherapy in December 1998 and died on January 31, 1999. He was just two and a half years old. For you see, the state-of-the-art chemotherapy protocol recommended by the oncologists had already proven itself to be ineffective in pediatric brain tumors back four years earlier. The exact same chemotherapy drugs provided to Alexander in 1998 had been administered to children of the same age with the same brain tumor as Alexander with similar results. Of course, the parents were never informed about the failure of this therapy. You should note that when the parents hesitated to bring Alexander in for chemotherapy the oncologists were already preparing to take control by court order. The parents wanted to use a non-toxic treatment alternative, proven to be effective, and yet were forced to use an ineffectual, toxic treatment. I am afraid these parents may have been harmed twice over by the medical establishment for there is also the possibility that the brain tumor was caused by vaccinations containing Thimerosal, commonly used in vaccinations at that time and responsible for numerous cases of neurological disorders in children, such as autism, ADD/HD, and brain tumors. You can learn more about Alexanders story by visiting http://www.ouralexander.org/index.htm. Just how dangerous is chemotherapy? The following excerpt can be found on the University of Iowas website. Their protocol for dealing with chemo spills conjures images of a rather frightening scene of contamination because it is, in fact, a serious state of contamination. It reads as follows: Patients and caregivers shall be taught safe, proper, handling and disposal of waste generated during continuous infusions of chemotherapy. The following procedures should be implemented immediately if a chemotherapy leak or spill should occur: 1. Put on a pair of disposable latex gloves. 2. If chemo has spilled on clothing, remove immediately and take a shower, scrubbing the exposed skin with soap and water. Watch for redness, blistering, or a burning sensation. Contact your nurse to report the spill. She will give you further instructions if necessary. 3. Remove any and all sharp objects, placing them into your sharps container or any can with a lid such as a coffee can. 4. Soak up the spill with an absorbent disposable material, such as paper towels. 5. Disinfect the spill area with soap and water or a household cleaner such as window cleaner, 409, alcohol, bleach, or liquid carpet cleaner. 6. Put the absorbent material and the gloves into a chemotherapy waste container or garbage bag and carefully mark it. It will be picked up later by the pharmacy personnel. 7. If a spill occurs on a patient's or caregiver's clothing or sheets, these articles should be washed separately from regular laundry in hot water. 8. If a spill occurs on unprotected furniture, the area should be scrubbed with soap and water and rinsed with clean water while wearing protective chemo safety gloves. 9. Patients and caregivers should be taught to use care when handling vomitus or excretions of the patient for 48 hours post treatment and to use good handwashing technique. Now imagine the spill they are referring to as chemicals that an individual with cancer will be taking into their body because that is indeed the case. By no means do I wish to demonize the medical profession as a whole because there are many quality doctors and instances when prescription drugs may be necessary, however, I encourage caution when taking advice that will affect your health. It is important to consider the possibility that sometimes the medical establishment may be leading us down the wrong path. Natural therapies may not be able to claim to cure or treat disease but sometimes you need to just take a step back and perform your own due diligence, take a look at the results and come to your own conclusion. Anyone in the world By Eddie Tobey Anyone who is interested in a surgery of choice such as a gastric bypass surgery would know the benefits to be gained from it. It is also important for a patient to be aware of the risks associated with various aspects of the operation. Even though gastric bypass surgery is growing in popularity as a solution for obese people, it is important to consider carefully the pros and cons of the mandatory post surgery diets before going ahead with the operation. Patients and physicians should carefully weigh the benefits and risks of a gastric bypass diet as recorded by The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The chief benefit is that most patients lose weight quickly and continue to lose it for 18 to 24 months after the procedure due to their being strictly on a gastric bye pass diet. Most patients regain 5 to 10 percent of the weight they have lost. The surgery and the diet improves most cases of diabetes, asthma, heart diseases, gallbladder disease, sleep apnea syndrome, respiratory insufficiency, stress urinary incontinence, low back pain and degenerative disk disease, and degenerative joint disease, gastro esophageal reflux disease and quite a few other obesity-related conditions Though these benefits are very tempting, a gastric bypass diet has its share of risks. Some obese patients who have had weight-loss surgery develop gallstones. During rapid or substantial weight loss, a person's risk of developing gallstones increases. Nearly 30 percent of patients who have had weight-loss surgery develop nutritional deficiencies such as anemia, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease due to the nature of diets that follow. Women who have undergone gastric bypass surgery should avoid pregnancy until their weight becomes stable. It has been seen that rapid weight loss and nutritional deficiencies can harm a developing fetus. To go through with a gastric bypass surgery is a personal decision as well as a medical one. Most doctors will make the risks and benefits clear to the patients. In addition to assessing the surgery itself, it is important to consider the pros and cons of the post surgery diet before making a final decision. Depending on their specific medical conditions, a gastric bypass diet will either help individuals to lose rapid weight or result in life threatening complications. Anyone in the world By Olga Moe Because of the change in social roles, increasing numbers of single empty nesters are floating around in our society. Doubtless, there will be many more. Divorce is more prevalent, women can support themselves now, and many parents remain single during child rearing years to begin with. What do we do when our last baby leaves home, and we are left with three extra bedrooms.? Do we move into a cramped little space which will allow us to prepare for retirement, or do we just stay right where we are and take in roommates? I know what I did, and I am very happy about it. I bought a small condo a year after my son moved out of our beautiful home. I had a lifetime of precious memories stored with me, such as my sons early school papers, his early toys, his baseball card collection, not to mention an accumulation of life-style enhancers, such as tennis rackets and jogging machines. All of it went. I ruthlessly tossed out everything that would not fit, essentially, into two rooms. I was allotted a tiny storage area in the basement, which took incredible amounts of organization and maneuvering in order to cram as much of my life into it as possible so I wouldnt be tripping over everything in my limited living space. I was upstairs, and so I had given up the joy of having a yard, and that means I had given up my dog, too. Financially, I had it made. $550.00 a month including tax and insurance, and it was mine for the rest of my life. The only problem was that I was my miserable. I regretted having sabotaged my life right at a time when I should have been enjoying a thirty year culmination of gathering and establishing. I threw it all away out of some kind of fear over money, and then I discovered that the house would have climbed in equity to the tune of 100,000 a year anyway. I had condemned myself to a stuffy, lonely coffin, I had priced myself out of the market for good, and the damage I had done to the continuity of my life was irreversible. I could either hate myself for the rest of myself and not bother to get out of bed any more, or I could find a solution for my need to live in a real house and with human companionship. I bought a house that cost me 130,000 more than my original one with an interest only mortgage. I went in search of roommates. There are a lot of us. We are everywhere! I had always avoided opening my home to strangers because I felt like it would be a violation of my sacred space. I found however, that other people cherish their sacred space also, and if you find mature people you will actually be sharing the same wish, and you will accommodate one another. Once they have their own room complete with some kind of media player and personal things, they will not object to simply sharing a living room, kitchen and yard with their fellow housemates. Most of them will enjoy it. It is built in companionship. You dont have to go out to some formal get-together just to interact with people. It is a growing experience so you dont stagnate. It is a feeling of accomplishment because you have figured out a way to keep your house. Hey, roommates arent for just the young. We can have some fun too! Anyone in the world By Rachel Paxton Wedding receptions don't have to cost a fortune. Many families are on tight budgets these days, limiting the parents' ability to contribute financially and placing much of the burden of wedding expenses on young couples who are just starting out in life and on limited budgets themselves. When planning a wedding reception, location is key. Depending on how many people are invited, you may need a sizable place to have the reception. Weather permitting, your wedding reception could be held in someone's back yard or at a local park. My own wedding ceremony and reception were held at a local park in a specially reserved area (including gazebo) that cost only about $60 for the entire day. My mother and I recently hosted a wedding reception for my sister in our mobile home park's club house. A $150 deposit was required, but the deposit was returned after we cleaned up and left the club house the way we found it. We had full access to a fully equipped kitchen, sitting area, tables, chairs, and restrooms for an entire day. Everything we needed was right there and didn't cost us a dime. Decorations that can be used after the reception is over more than pay for themselves. For my sister's reception we created beautiful centerpieces for the tables by buying some glass Pyrex cereal bowls ($1 each at a local outlet mall) and placing green glass marbles from the craft store in the bottom of each. We then filled the bowls half way with water and placed a white rose- shaped floating candle in each. These attractive centerpieces were very easy to assemble in just a minute or two and in addition to lending their candlelight to the room made a wonderful inexpensive gift for the bride and groom--a complete set of matching cereal bowls! Food also doesn't have to require too much effort or added expense. My own wedding reception was a pot luck luncheon. My mother provided the sandwich rolls, sliced meat and cheeses, and condiments, and close friends and family members were asked to bring side dishes and salads. My husband's aunt made the most beautiful multi-tiered wedding cake for us, and our expense was minimal! No one went away hungry. My sister's reception was more of a sit-down affair, but still did not cost us a fortune. Knowing the reception would take place in October, we thought that it was taking place close enough to the holidays to have a Thanksgiving-style dinner. Most of our relatives don't have the opportunity to see one another during the holidays anyway, and we knew this would be a great opportunity to get everyone together and spend some time visiting and eating a wonderful meal. My husband barbecued a turkey, my mom baked a ham, and we again asked close friends and family members to bring their favorite holiday salads and side dishes. The dinner was a huge success. A family friend made the wedding cake and let us borrow her punch bowl. The wedding cake included the cake top that had adorned our own parents' wedding cake more than 30 years ago. This was a surprise for my sister, as was the crystal cake plate that had been a wedding gift to our parents from a great grandmother. All of our family's wedding receptions have been huge successes, and while requiring a lot of effort on the part of many friends and family members, have never cost any one of us more than $100 or so. When planning your next wedding reception, don't focus on the lavishness of the event, focus on creating a memorable day that will live on in your family's memories for years to come. Anyone in the world By Gudni Einarsson Where there is yang there is yin and where there is yin there is yang. Neither exists without each other. Balance between both sustains harmony or whole and imbalance between both creates to much of either. This is aspect of duality. If we look at our own bodies and start from the top then we know that our brain is split into right and left brain which controls different way of thinking. There is also two eyes two openings in the heart, two lungs, the liver splits in two, there are two kidneys etc. Looking at the outside world we can see the yin and yang in the aspect of day and night, hot and cold, light and dark, sun and moon, left and right, wet and dry, heavy and light, below and above, contraction and expansion, slow and rapid, descending and rising, water and fire, solid and gaseous, growth and death, passive and aggressive, heaven and earth and many other possibilities. The play between all these qualities create result or action and reaction and consequence. The more one aspect dominates the other, the stronger is the reaction in the environment which it influences. For example if there is too much heat and sun like in desert there is no growth. If it is too cold and little sun like in the arctic there is no growth. The further the yin and yang is from each other, the more conflict it can be. If we take for example right wing and left wing politics. There was a wide gap between these two ideology. It created one of the greatest conflict ever we have seen in this world. But from that conflict there was creation of even greater aspect into our mass consciousness and that was the demand of peace and brotherhood. There has never been so many organisations and individuals fighting for human mankind to bring awareness of non-conflict or tolerance towards difference of being and demand of peace. This is still going on and even today the need is great since we are seeing great conflict between two ideology and cultures again in a different way. So what does all this politics got to do with health. Well, what is above is below and what is outside is inside. The Chinese philosophy talks about the universe being reflected in our bodies. This is not only in Chinese philosophy but in others philosophies as well. So in our bodies there is conflict between yin and yang and the further the yin and yang splits apart the more serious consequence there is. If there is to much yang there is too much heat if there is too much yin there is too much cold. In our everyday life we are constantly making decisions between so called right and wrong behaviour or action. This can create stress in our lifes and constant indecision. This is an example of conflict and it can be trivial or very serious. Who doesnt know the feeling of the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other shoulder, of course metaphorically speaking. It is always the middle path that is the most generous, but so hard to stay on it. Understanding and trusting that understanding is our key. Intuition is the fluid which brings us back to the balance. Be Well Learn more about acupuncture and how it relates to disease. Anyone in the world By Cheryl Johnson That most of us are considered poor is no disgrace, but does us credit; for, as the mind is weakened by luxurious living, so it is strengthened by a frugal life.(Minucius Felix, 3rd century A.D.) People who live a frugal lifestyle often live with less stress. Typically, those who take control of their money feel they have more control over their life in general. You've heard the old clich "Money is Power." What most of us fail to understand is that the power isn't in having the money, or how much you have, rather in the ability to control what money you do have! With that power comes peace of mind. It's the peace of knowing that all you have is truly "yours". With that peace of mind comes Frugal Freedom. Freedom from debt. Freedom from envy. Freedom from ridicule, shame, and loss. Loss of what you might ask. Sanity, for one thing. Trust me, when the walls of financial ruin come tumbling down around you, it's easy to loose your sanity! And, no matter how much money you have, if you can't control it, you are headed for financial ruin. There are many stories of those who have become wealthy and eventually fell to financial ruin. These are people who let money control them instead of responsibly managing their money. Much of the transition from spendthrift to frugal is within the mind. It's not so much a physical shedding of the luxuries of life. Rather, it is the ability to accept that you don't have to "keep up with the Joneses." This can be a huge mental leap living in today's world of material values. It takes an understanding of what you really need to be successful. Focus inward to what drives you to want more money. Is it necessity or just appearances that drive you to spend more, have more and, consequently, owe more? In review of your own unique situation you might find the answers very enlightening. Hopefully, seeing the true origin of your desires and re-evaluating what you "need" will lead to change. Then again, you may not like what you see and in denial exclaim that its all baloney! I hope you have the courage to make the changes needed to achieve financial security and peace of mind. Many of us forget that we do have the ability to change. It's never too late! There is no truer realization of how hard it can be, and how we may need help, to change, than the following well known serenity prayer.. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change....The courage to change the things I can and.....the wisdom to know the difference. Now whether youre a religious person or not, the above statement is true in all aspects of our lives. I often think of it when presented with life's little dilemmas. It reminds me that I do have choices. I need to evaluate the situation carefully and research my options. Some things we can change, some things we cannot change. Figure this out, have the courage to fix it, or peace of mind to accept it. I can tell you from personal experience that financial ruin is something you can fix. It is rarely an easy fix, but always will bring peace of mind! So, when asked what I think frugality is.....It's Freedom. Peace of mind. Re-evaluating what life really means. Knowing the difference between necessity and wants. Shedding appearances in exchange for reality. Taking control of my finances. Getting back to basics, and focusing on the "really" important things in life.... family.... friends.... children..... learning....and teaching. Anyone in the world By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Victor_Epand]Victor Epand Dependent on the phone you choose, to generalise most camera phones do have the capability to transfer picture to PC. You may have to purchase a cable as an extra or it may come with the phone, it depends. Depending on how you transfer you picture from phone to phone, e.g sending them as a picture message (you will be charged for this) or via bluetooth (this is free), will determine how much it cost. You do not have to pay for a text service to be able to use the camera, but if you want to send them on then you will. Once again photo quality and format is very much dependant on the phone, most Nokia phones have reasonable quality cameras and save pictures as .jpg in 640x480. With the quality of Lithium batteries. These days I would not worry about the phone running low due to camera use, most models will last at least 48 hours before dieing! It's a good habit to charge a phone over night anyway so no problem there. Most camera phones that take photos in 640x480 can store about 600 pics, if you can use a memory card like i do ,with my Nokia 7710, you can potentially store around 10000, but thats a bit excessive! Depending on how much you spend on the phone will depend on the quality; if you can I would advise you to go for a Nokia, as they are extremely user friendly. There are also some Pre-Paid plans that offer an option through the plan to directly download pictures to your computer. Your best bet would be to determine what phone would allow you to connect it to your computer via USB cable and has PC Suite, for example, and then use for motorola Razr that will allow you to connect it to your computer. You charge it that way and also download the contacts and pictures to you computer. If your cell phone has bluetooth, you can also purchase a bluetooh USB Adapter that will allow you to use bluetooth to connect to your computer. To my knowledge, the cell providers do not sell the phones with these cables. You would need to purchase the cable from the cell phone company or a third-party provider. The cell phone providers want you to use their wireless service to send pictures, because they charge you eithera monthly fees for a specific amount of kilobytcs or typically for this service. The Jabra is a good buy. It's either the same size or smaller than H500, cheaper, and also in black. It's only suitable for bluetooth version or higher. It's the only one, but its another for you to consider. Downside to the phone is 2 hours less talk time and 2 hours less stand by time then the H500. You could determine how much of your phone you use, and make a decision if the extra amount of money is worth the talk-stand by time. The thing is that the SIM Card on the phone is already programmed for Post Paid Plans. If you want to use the phone as a Pre-Paid you have to change the SIM Card in the phone to that of a Pre-Paid one. Another thing is that the phone would be locked onto the verizon you get when you purches the SIM Card for that network Pre-Paid service or it won't work. Anyone in the world By Lenore Chapman Do you have a computer and a grandchild who had a computer? Well I have both. My grandson lives in Florida, and I can't always get down there to visit him. We spend a great bit of time together when I am there. Toy, games and just plain talking about kid stuff. When I'm not there we still spend a great bit of time together. It is called Internet. Yes he is 8 years old and knows his computer when it comes to messaging grandma to chat or to play an online game with him, or send an e-mail just to say I Love You with a picture he drew for you.
I come home from work and turn on my computer and messenger and there he is, waiting for me. His message next to his name either says, waiting for you or where are you grandma. It got to the point, that my daughter couldn't get online cause my grandson was hogging it up, and would fight with her because he was online with grandma, and didn't want to give her the computer. She ended up getting him his own computer. We spend a couple hours together each night. First comes the messenger. We chat back and forth for a while. Then comes the phone call. I guess he gets tired of typing, or he has a story to tell me that would take too long to type on the messenger, or he doesn't feel like typing an e-mail or he just plumb wants to talk to me. That one phone call can take up to 45 minutes. I hear a lot of I love you and I miss you, when are you coming to visit. After all this, it is ready to get down to business and play some games on the internet with him. He plays games and sends the link to me and I do the same with him, but the fun part is playing a game against him. We have hours of fun. I am the type of grandma that lets him win once in a while but not too often. You don't want him to grow up thinking he has to win all the time. You want him to grow up feeling it is great to win but you can't be the winner all the time. He was getting an attitude when he lost all the time. At one time everyone would cheat so he could come out the winner. That wasn't the right thing to do. Once he got older he thought he was the greatest at all games. Grandma doesn't play that way. We play fair until Grandma wins all the games. Then Grandma feels bad and lets him win a few here and there. But not all of them. But now that he is older, there are some games that Grandma can't beat him at and of course he smears the pie in my face because of it. To all the grandparents out there. If you can't visit your grandkids and you have a compute and they have one, visit them online. You will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I know I do. Anyone in the world By Michele Rogers Seems these days the teens are running in many different directions at once, from family to school, to dating and beyond. Many teens seem to spend less time doing the few chores they should. Its hard on the working parents. Most parents dont ask for much, just pick up your mess and thats it. Parents of today are awesome in that they too can relate to the rat race we all run. Often parents come home to the kids leaving their dinner plates in front of the television. They know exactly where they ate. Breath deep parents, take time to eat your dinner too. The plate on the floor in front of the television is not going to attract rats. After you are done calmly call you teen to help you with something. Then calmly tell them to pick of their mess. By doing it together they see that you are now doing yours they will do theirs. By calmly asking for help at certain times and not a lot of yelling and frustration involved, the kids of today seem all to able to help. If you add a little sarcasm or anger in that you will get nothing done and then you will have a bad evening. By relaying to them in a monotone voice that when you come home you are pooped and that having the plate in front of the television bothers you, that if they just took it to the kitchen would be a big help, is more effective than a long drawn out explosion. Kids, teens these days seem to feed of that anger and throw it back at us. But the nicer you are and the more you bite your tongue when asking for help, you will note you get more done by your teen.
