10 Keys to Getting Paid What You're Worth!
by salome sides - Thursday, 20 March 2008, 12:20 AM
Anyone in the world

By Mary Jeanne Vincent Asking for money is so taboo in our culture that most of us shake in our shoes when we think about negotiating salary. It conjures up our insecurities about not being good enough, not knowing enough, or not being considered valuable enough. We worry that the company will rescind its offer if we ask for what were worth. The truth is if you dont negotiate, the employer thinks he or she has paid too much. When you are confident enough to negotiate, your value goes up in the eyes of the employer. You may not get everything you ask for, but if you dont ask you wont get what you are worth! Use these keys to open the locks on your earning potential. DO YOUR RESEARCH. You must find out what the going rate is for the kind of work you do. Check out online salary surveys and surveys published by professional associations. But remember the best source of salary information is the people who currently work in the field. Ask them for a salary range based on your experience for a given position and industry. DEMONSTRATE YOUR CAPABILITIES AND EXPERTISE. Sell your skills, knowledge, and expertise from your initial contact with the organization right through to the offer. Know what the employers problems, challenges, and issues are and demonstrate that you are the best person to solve the problems, meet the challenges, and resolve the issues. PUT OFF SALARY DISCUSSIONS until after you have been offered the position. When asked about salary requirements or expectations, realize that you have a one in three chance of answering correctly. The odds are not in your favor so shift the conversation to a discussion of the employers needs and how you can solve their problems. Your goal is to move the employer from concern about their budget to conviction that you are the answer to their problem. BUY TIME TO CONSIDER THE OFFER. Be gracious and politely request time to evaluate the offer. There are sound reasons why you need time to consider an offer: To study and understand the total package. To decide how to deal with a salary that may be lower than you expected. To discuss the offer with your family, colleagues, or network contacts. To plan and execute a successful negotiation strategy. To transition from the high of getting the offer to the level-headedness required to negotiate. To keep your options open for another offer which you expect to receive shortly. DEVELOP A NEGOTIATION STRATEGY. Identify multiple options for getting to the compensation level you seek. Maintain a positive attitude and negotiate from the basis of worth not need. Seek win-win solutions. NEGOTIATE IN PERSON. Because body language and tone of voice are essential to this process, you must negotiate in person rather than by telephone. RESPOND TO THE INITIAL OFFER WITHOUT REACTING. When the employer quotes a figure, repeat the figure or the top of the range, then keep quiet and silently count to 30. Often the silence will prompt them to immediately bump up the salary. KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY. Make a conscious decision before you sit down to negotiate that you will politely walk away from the opportunity if it doesnt meet your must have requirements. Dont accept the position thinking things will change once you are on the job. GET THE OFFER IN WRITING. Things change; bosses come and go. If you negotiate anything out of the ordinaryadditional or early vacation, higher than usual salary, an office with a door instead of a cubicleget it in writing so that when circumstances change your agreement is still intact. DELIVER WHAT YOU PROMISED AND MORE. Once you are on the job deliver what you promised and more. Why? For future promotions, salary increases, to protect your reputation, and to give you leverage should things at the company take a turn for the worse. Chemical Warning for Cosmetics
by salome sides - Wednesday, 19 March 2008, 10:24 PM
Anyone in the world

By Danny Siegenthaler Below is a transcript from a report screened on A Current Affaire (Australian Television Channel 9) on Tue 05/09/06, as reported by Ros Thomas Many women will spend a small fortune on toiletries and cosmetics over their lifetime, using them morning and night. However, very few women actually have a clue what is in the products they use.
A British lobby group has issued a warning that the average woman applies more than 175 chemical compounds to her face and body every day. Dr Ernest Tan, a Perth dermatologist, says the cosmetics industry sells science to women as though it's nature. Chief amongst their favoured ingredients are the following: Formaldehyde the same compound used to embalm bodies.Sodium laurel sulphate used to create bubbles in shampoos and soaps.Parabens often used in moisturisers, mostly as preservatives.
All of the above ingredients can cause reactions, from simple irritations if the skin is slightly damaged, to full allergic reactions. Comment: This is a very conservative list. There are literally hundreds of chemicals (synthetic and natural), which are used in skin care and cosmetics, which have been band in countries such as the US and Canada - but not here in Australia...

However, beauty editors such as Cleo magazine's Rachel Mannell say if those chemicals weren't in makeup, no one would buy them because they'd look, smell and feel terrible. Comment: After speaking with Rachel personally, she pointed out, that a focus on more natural ingredients is to be encouraged and that more and more companies are moving in that direction.
Editors of magazines such as Cleo, have an enormous influence on readers and are in an ideal position to bring awareness and education to the public.
You have to ask: Might it not be better to have a non-foaming cleanser or shampoo, which are widely available by the way, and avoid the possibility of slowly poisoning oneself?
Might not the thinking consumer prefer a product that may not look quite as pretty but performs the intended functions equally well in a natural way, rather than consume potentially dangerous chemicals?

"It's a catch-22 because sulphates are used in shampoos and cleansers for the foaming effect and if the products don't have sulphates in them, they don't foam and consumers are unhappy," Mannell says. Comment: Again, this is not the case. More and more consumers are looking for natural skin and personal care products and are educating themselves on the potential dangers of these chemicals.
I run a web site that focuses on natural skin care and it provides many articles on the dangers and potentially harmful ingredients in commercially available beauty products.

But no longer fooled by the glitz and glamour of the beauty business, many women are now asking questions about what's in their cosmetics and why you need to be a scientist to understand the labels. Comment: This is certainly a growing trend. We receive many emails wanting to know if our products include chemicals that have been discussed widely in the media, such as the three mentioned above. This points out to us, that consumers are increasingly less willing to put chemicals on their skin, which may pose a danger to their health, and this is why we do not use them in our products.
Certainly dermatologists say we're being bombarded with all kinds of products none of us need.
"I think a lot of females are using too many products and I think all they need to use is a soap-free wash, a moisturiser and some sun protection. I think the rest, in terms of cosmetics, are over-used and over-marketed," Dr Tan says. Comment: Dr Tan makes a very valid point, however, I think even he would agree that a daily skin care regime which includes cleansing, toning and moisturising is a sound approach to skin care, and using products that utilise natural ingredients, which are just as effective, if not more so then their synthetic counterparts, are to be preferred. Second Interview: What Happens After The First Interview?
by salome sides - Sunday, 16 March 2008, 06:09 PM
Anyone in the world

By Carl Mueller Getting a second interview is typically your goal when you attend a first interview. Unless the job you're applying for has a one-interview process to be followed by a job offer to the successful candidate, you will most likely be trying to get invited back for a second interview. For more senior positions you might even come back for a third and subsequent interviews. Sometimes companies have processes in place that result in multiple interviews for potential employees. What actually happens in the second interview of course largely depends on what happened in the first interview. Often, the first interview is a Human Resources (HR) interview. This is when you get interviewed by a member of HR to determine whether or not you are someone who would fit with their company. The HR interview might focus on what some job searchers often sarcastically refer to as "touchy-feely" questions but don't treat this interview as a joke. You might be surprised at the power that HR wield in some companies. I've seen some HR staff turn down job candidates even when the hiring manager liked them. Also, don't expect to be able to go into the HR interview and "wing it." In other words, make sure you prepare for this interview as you would any other interview. If your first interview was with the hiring manager, the second interview might be a more in depth discussion with the same hiring manager and/or you might meet up with one of their peers (ie. another manager) or perhaps you'll meet up with people you'd be working with should you get the job. In this case, the questions you face tend to be more in depth than before. At this point, the company has shown interest in you so they will want to gain more information about you and your suitability for the job. You also need to gain more knowledge about the company and the people you'd be working with. Some companies might hold a panel second interview where you get interviewed by several people at once. I've experienced this several times myself. When you're leaving the first interview try to get a sense as to what the next step in the process is. If you find out that you have been invited to a second interview try to find out who you'll be meeting with and what each person does. This will help you get a better sense of what the second interview will entail and what you will need to prepare for. Woodpecker Bird Feeders
by salome sides - Sunday, 16 March 2008, 05:14 PM

By Pam Caouette Woodpecker bird feeders are a great way to attract woodpeckers to your yard. Woodpeckers are a great bird to have in your yard because they eat insects and bugs that are in and on your trees as well as your garden. A woodpecker will eat grasshoppers, flies, wasps, beetles, grubs and can eat thousands of carpenter ants a day. A great way to keep these pecking birds in your yard is to offer them their own woodpecker bird feeder. The bird feeder that is best suited for a woodpecker is a suet bird feeder. Suet cakes are available in a variety of styles from peanut, seed, berry and raisin flavors. Another favorite of woodpeckers and a great woodpecker feeder would be a perching bird feeder. This type of perching bird feeder would include a platform bird feeder. It is important that there is lots of perching space on your bird feeder for the woodpecker. On your platform woodpecker bird feeder be sure to include woodpeckers favorite seed, black oil sunflower. Some woodpeckers will come to your platform bird feeder if you have cracked corn or grapes, raisins and apples. Woodpeckers and other flickers also enjoy drinking sweet nectar, just like orioles and humming birds. You can place a hummingbird feeder or an oriole nectar bird feeder in your yard as a treat to the woodpeckers that you have attracted. With a humming bird feeder, or a nectar feeder make sure that the feeding holes are large enough for the woodpeckers beak. There are many different varieties of woodpeckers, as well as different sizes. The most common type of woodpecker you are to seed at your woodpecker feeder would be the Common Flicker, Red-headed Woodpecker and the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. If you are lucky you may even attract a Pileated Woodpecker to your woodpecker feeder. These are only a few types of woodpeckers there are at least 10 different types of woodpeckers that you could attract to your backyard wild bird feeding station. By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Morgan_Hamilton] Morgan Hamilton Does it ever seem to you like your nose is constantly congested? Perhaps you have a know it runs like the Mississippi River. How about itchy sinuses? Sometimes when these things come upon us we wonder if it's a cold that just won't go away. Well I sincerely doubt that that is the case. I believe those are the symptoms of an allergy. What you have to figure out is exactly what you are allergic to before you can effectively treat the symptoms. I recall suffering from allergies as a kid and having to go to the doctor and do a series of skin tests to determine exactly which allergies affected me. This will probably involve a number of oils and needles. You know, they scrape your skin and then dab some substance like pollen or grass on it to see if it reacts. But in order to effectively create an allergy treatment you must first know what allergy it is that you are dealing with. Are you an allergy sufferer? I hadn't really bad when I was a kid. I think he can outgrow these things to appoint as you immune system becomes stronger. But for myself it was so bad that I actually had to get three injections a week for years for my allergy treatment and for my immune system finally took over and did the job. As far as allergy treatments go this was a lot of fun, but it actually became a teen and didn't bother me after a while. The shots themselves didn't hurt because the needle is the doctor used was really small. Well, I guess actually sometimes it did hurt when he hit a muscle, but that was no big deal. I'm happy to report now that the allergy treatment that I recently was indeed very effective. I do get the occasional congested nose in fits of sneezing, but that usually only occurs when I'm cutting the lawn or some other such activity where the contact with the allergen is at its highest. Surfing the World Wide Web is an excellent way to collect information that be of value to you. There are quite a few over-the-counter remedies that can be effective as allergy treatments. But I must caution you that if you're allergies are really starting to get the better if you, common sense dictates that you see a doctor. If you do go the over-the-counter route you must always be sure to read and comprehend the ingredients before using. I understand you want to curb those annoying allergies, but you don't want more serious problems to grapple with. You can also consult your local pharmacist for some general info on the best allergy treatment for you or your child. There's no need to suffer needlessly if you can benefit from an effective allergy treatment. Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning health and medicine. Mobile Mania

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=V_Ramasamy]V Ramasamy Technology development has revolutionized India, particularly in the field of communication. Internet, e-mail & mobile phones are making peoples life easier. Among this, mobile phones have become a mania in India. Here are the few actions of mobile users to support this statement. If you had keenly watched mobile users, you would have noticed that whether they receive any call or not, yet they used to take out the mobile from their pocket, switch it on and stare at the screen for a while and put it near their ear and again stare at the screen for a while before switching it off and put it back in their pocket again. I am really amazed to see the frequency of the action almost every fifteen minutes. Yes, Indian mobile users love to flaunt their mobile in the public. No mater how important you are. No matter what important matter you are discussing with the mobile user, his/her attention always drawn towards the call received in their mobile. The moment they receive the call, they never hesitate to abandon you in the middle to attend their call. Once the call is over, you have to begin your discussion from the beginning, as she/he would be in a state of trance after attending the call. Here is a lesson, if you want to be listened properly, try to talk in mobile phone next time. Employers are the happiest lot to have mobile phones as it helps them to track their employees all the time. On the other day when I was traveling in the bus, one passenger sitting next to me, a mobile in his hand, giving almost a running commentary about his journey by giving exact details of each stop, where he is now and when he would reach a particular point. I presumed that probably he might be speaking to his boss (!). Mobile users also dont have any etiquette. Once I was attending a condolence meeting. Large people gathered at a big hall. The whole atmosphere was very calm and serene. At the middle of the crowd a middle aged man who was sitting silently for a long, suddenly stood up as if he was bitten by some insect and looked around the hall in a hurry. After few seconds, he was started running to the corner of the hall. I was totally stunned to see his action. Since the meeting was on, I controlled my curiosity. Once the meeting was over I asked the person about his erratic behaviour. Without any embarrassment in his face, he told me casually that he just attended the telephone call in his mobile (!) While walking on the road, if you happened to see motorcycle riders with their head bent towards their shoulders; dont think that they are handicapped. Probably they may be attending their mobile call by holding the mobile set between their head and shoulders (!) People are in the habit of noticing you only if you have a mobile phone. If anybody asks you what is your mobile number, if you say you have only landline, he/she will stare at you as if you have come from some tribal area (!) Mobile Phone Accessories: Spice Up the Mobile Experience

Anyone in the world

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Keith_Rickwood]Keith Rickwood As we make advancement in the field of communication, every thing related to it have improved in leaps and bound. The mobile phone that started its journey in a brick sized case with just the basic feature of making and receiving call have now evolved into high configuration multimedia computers. Keeping up with the upward climb of mobile phones, the mobile phone accessories too have rapidly updated. Mobile Phone Accessories being the easiest and cheapest way to upgrade your mobile, is hugely popular across all sections of mobile users. Most popular mobile phone accessories includes external memory cards and Bluetooth headsets. Popularity of the former is due to the fact that it allows a mobile phone user to carry all his files like media files and other office application on a memory card which are getting cheaper by the day. A comparatively cheap music phone fitted with a decent memory card is a quite tempting option against a costlier mp3 player. A wireless Bluetooth headset comes in very hand to make and receive phone calls as well as listen to music when you're driving. High capacity batteries that considerably increases the stand up time a mobile too are very popular among all users. Apart from that, charger adapter of different handsets are very necessary when the standard kit doesn't include a charger that fits to a particular socket. The idea of charging your phone in the car with a Car kit adapter is gaining popularity. Like the ever changing face of technology, the mobile phone accessories too are highly dynamic. Once popular external cameras for phone are now obsolete due to high definition integrated cameras but at the same time, futuristic Bluetooth GPS receiver, flexible keyboards and high definition multi-purpose speaker systems have came to the fore and now are hugely popular. Mobile phone accessories, just like the mobile phone itself have covered a great distances in very less time and have been instrumental in determining the direction of the progress of the mobile phone. Aromatherapy And Weight Loss
by salome sides - Wednesday, 12 March 2008, 07:22 PM

By Lorna Findlay All of us will like to see ourselves well groomed and fit enough to look great and flaunt those athletic physiques among friends and relatives. Unfortunately, it is not always possible for the most obvious reasons; we simply can not maintain our body weight. For some people the dilemma of being overweight starts first in the mind: It is all psychological and once the mind is healthy, the slimmer body will automatically follow. Mentally, aromatherapy can help you to fight stress and lift your mood. The connection between smell and emotion are thought to be extremely close. Taking a deep breath of pleasant smells triggers positive reactions in the brain, resulting in a sense of wellbeing and goodness. We are all very unique. If oil works well for one person it doesnt necessarily mean it will work the same for the next person. The way the oils are used could also make a difference; one person might benefit more by using the oils in the bath, rather than inhalation, massage or burning the oils. The same theory holds good in case of human weight; more you feel good and hale, the more will be the care towards your physical well being. A regular aromatherapy session may help you achieve weight loss campaign, by increasing your sense of well-being and relaxation. However, aromatherapy cannot produce desired weight loss without you creating your own calorie deficit regime, either by eating a calorie-reduced weight loss diet, or by increasing calories burned through rigorous exercise, or more ideally by a combination of diet and exercise. Aromatherapy has proven to be very useful for this weight loss. This natural way of treating has no side effect at all as compared to other treatments. Certain essential oils are very useful in weight loss trial, like Birch, Grapefruit, Juniper, Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, and Fennel. Massage is probably the best method and oils must be used with base oils like sweet almond, which makes oil less strong and easy to use. Applying oil to those places were fatty tissues are more, will really help to reduce the fat level and make your physique well shaped. Essential oils used here are not only sweet smelling but have also the capacity to make your digestive system good, that in turn also helps in weight reduction. How ever, one must see that the oils used should be in moderate amount and mixed with carrier oil before using. A calculated dosage, rigorous exercise-workout and a strict diet will go a long way in achieving a significant weight loss. How to Make Your Business Stand out in a Crowd of 100's of Names

By Jayant Hudar We have all heard of the term Information Overload. We live in an era where we are bombarded with information most of the time, people are trying very hard to sell something or the other through this information. Every product category has too many players fighting for a toehold in the prospects mind. So how do you ensure that you get through to your prospect through this haze of information? How do you ensure that he remembers your product over the competitors? Simple, You make use of the fact that anybody will remember something that is different from everything else. You have to invest time and find out what it is that is different about your product. What does it offer that others dont? Which of your prospects untapped needs does your product cater to? Why should anybody do business with you as opposed to your competitors? What are the advantages your prospects would have if they chose your product? Once you have found answers to these questions, you can easily find out what your Unique Selling Proposition is. Unique Selling Proposition or USP is marketing jargon for the uniqueness in your product that would make prospects choose it over others in the same category. USP is also called USA nowadays. This stands for Unique Selling Advantage. Once you have found out your USP or USA, you have to make sure it is a part of every communication you have with your prospects. It is not enough to have a USP. You have to make sure your customers KNOW it and EXPERIENCE it. Your business should be centered round your USP, ensuring that this Unique benefit is experienced by the customer and communicated to every prospect. Merely having your companys and products name listed at various places isnt going to get you any sales. If you include your USP/ USA in those listings, you will be able to reach out and touch the prospect because you will be addressing a deep-rooted want of his. It is this ability of your USP to make sure that the prospect feels you identify with him/ her that will lead to sales and long term relationships. So find out what your Unique Selling Advantage is and make money on it! How To Negotiate a Deadlock like a Pro
by salome sides - Tuesday, 11 March 2008, 09:21 AM
Anyone in the world

By Mary Greenwood A deadlock occurs when the parties to a negotiation cannot reach agreement. Usually they are tired and frustrated and ready to give up. Here are a few Rules to chip away at the deadlock and close the deal. 1. Take a Break. If the emotions are high and both parties are clearly frustrated and tired, it might be time for a break. Clear the air and get a fresh start the next day or the next week. Give assignments and/or deadlines to work on during the break. Try brainstorming when you get back to see if anything has been overlooked. This is the time to emphasize mutual interests and try to close the deal. 2. Agree in Principal and Work Out the Details Later. Although it is important to get all the Is dotted and Ts crossed, sometimes you have to agree on the principal to get the negotiations moving again. Otherwise the negotiations may get bogged down working out every word and every possible contingency. Getting an agreement in principal is a morale booster. There is a shift when there is some agreement and the parties can come back later time to work out the details. 3. Stress What Will Happen If No Agreement Is Made A. We will have to start all over. B. What we have agreed to will not go into effect. C. If we let a third party make the decision, we might not like the result. D. We may lose the control to fashion our own settlement. E. We will loose a lot of time. 4. Be Prepared to Give One More Thing. There are some people who are never going to be satisfied and they always want one more thing. This is human nature, I guess, to squeeze as much out of the other side as possible. Knowing this trait will allow you to always keep a bargaining chip or two up your sleeve to close the deal. If you dont have to use the bargaining chip, that is even better. Remember you might be able to get one last thing as well. 5. Know When to Hold and When to Fold. Unfortunately not all negotiations end in settlement. If you have made several suggestions which were not met with any discussion or interest, this may be one of those negotiations that remains deadlocked. On the other hand, if you are still talking to each other and making some progress, even though very slowly, it might be worthwhile to still keep plodding away. Dont let the negotiation go forever. Just as the song says, sometimes you need to know when to fold.
